Restorations and Periodontal Health Flashcards
Define Biological Width
The combined width of the connective tissue and junctional epithelial attachment formed adjacent to the tooth and superior to the crestal bone
What are the 2 Main Causes of Periodontal Problems from Restoration?
Plaque Retentive Features
- overhangs, ledges
- voids at the margin
- roughness of the surface
Food Impaction
- poor or no contact points
- incorrect contour of supra gingival bulge
- overbuild or underbuilt embrasures = spillways
- plunger cusps - abnormal cusp contact between marginal ridges
If Gingivitis is Present, What should be Assessed before a Restoration is Placed?
- can there be spontaneous haemorrhage?
- if bleeding will affect moisture control
If Periodontitis is Present, What should be Assessed before a Restoration is Placed?
- if pocketing and bone loss means poor contours and aesthetics
- if there will be issues with subgingival floor from root caries
- how deep is it before there is sound tissue or pulp exposure
