Restoration RFT II Flashcards
Principles of crown retention?
Retain as much dentine as possible
Restore dentine mass w/ suitable material
Intra-radicular post if needed
When should intra-radicular post be considered?
When retention compromised
What can be used as core materials?
Amalgam
Composite
GIC
Issue w/ amalgam as core material?
No longer used as must be bonded due to unpredictable retention w/ tooth
Adv of composite as core material?
Adhesive
Purpose of intra-radicular post?
Retain and support core and coronal restoration
What are different types of posts?
Prefabricated or cast
Can use active thread system for posts?
No - introduce stress lead root splitting
What type of fit is ideal for post?
Passive - post is retained by adhesive lute
What consider about depth of post?
Deep post distribute stress better and are more retentive
BUT
disturb apical seal and destroy tooth substance
What ideal design of length of post?
Should be 3-4mm short apex
2/3 total root length
Greater 1/2 crown height
Adv and disadv narrow posts?
Narrow post are weak and easily rotated
but conserve tooth structure
What design feature should be used when prepping for post?
Dentine ferrule
What is a dentine ferrule?
Retentive feature of >1.5mm vertical sound tooth structure between crown margin and dentine-core interface wraps 360 around tooth
How create dentine ferrule?
Extend crown prep apical to post-dentine interface to create ferrule
