Epicenter
An epicenter is where we feel the earthquake
What are some things that can happen from an Earthquake?
Tsunamis, building lose, and deaths
What are the 2 kinds of folds?
Synclines: Which is sinking down
Anticlines: Which is rose up with the oldest in the center of the fold.
What is sea floor spreading
It is when magma comes through and pushes the old land away and the repeats.
What are Earth’s physical layers?
Lithosphere,Asthenosphere, Mesosphere, Outer Core, Inner Core
What are Earth’s Compositional layers?
Crust, Mantle, and Core
What are the 3 kinds of Mountains?
Folded, Fault-block, and Volcanic
What is a hot spot?
A spot where hot mantle rock, called mantle plume, rises through the Asthenosphere.
What are body waves (P waves and S waves)
P waves: These are primary waves, these are the ones that monitors detect first.
S waves: They are slower that P waves, these are also known as secondary waves, they cannot travel through most liquids.
What are the 3 scales we use?
Richter, Moment Magnitude, and Mercalli scale.
What is the focus of an Earthquake?
It is what is under the earth where transform boundaries are at work. And where the energy builds up the start and Epicenter.
Is the lithosphere one of the physical layers or compositional layers?
