What are the two advantages of inhaling through the nose.

A

1Air borne bacteria are filtered (hairs).
2. Air is moistened and warmed - this allows it to diffuse into capillaries in the lungs easier.

A

Trachea

A

• Air passes through here into the bronchi.

• Rings of cartilage surround the trachea to protect by ensuring it doesn't close in on itself.

Bronchi & Bronchioles

A

The trachea divides into the bronchi found in the lungs.

• The bronchi further divide into bronchiole (narrower).


• If a person suffers from asthma then their bronchiole are restricted.

• Asthma inhalers work by dilating (widening)
the bronchiole.
