Plasma
• Plasma on its own is actually is yellow.
1. Plasma transports substances around the body e.g. carbon dioxide, red blood cells, white blood cells and heat
2. Plasma is an excellent solvent as it is 90% water.
Platelets
1. To prevent blood loss.
2. To prevent the entry of microorganisms.
• Haemophiliacs have a platelet deficiency and cannot clot the blood.
White blood cells
• Function: To fight against infection caused by microorganisms.
Arteries
• Arteries carry blood Away from the heart.
Veins
Veins carry blood towards the heart.
Capillaries
• Capillaries connect arteries and veins and it is here where the substances are exchanged between cells.
