Response to Intervention (RTI)
- Aims to identify struggling students early on and give them the support they need
to thrive in school. - Focusses mainly on academics.
Multi-tiered System of Supports
- Provides targeted support to struggling students.
- Focuses on the WHOLE CHILD.
- Addresses academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
What is the difference between RTI and MTSS?
RTI - A framework used to help students struggling with academics.
MTSS - More comprehensive and includes the 3 tiered levels of RTI, but goes
beyond academics, addressing social-emotional and behavioral needs.
3 Tiers of RTI Support
Tier 1: Whole Group Instruction
Tier 2: Small Group Interventions
Tier 3: Intensive Individual Intervention
Benefits of Using RTI/MTSS
Intervention
Teachers, educational professionals, and other specialists step in or “intervene” to prevent students from falling behind.
What does RTI measure?
- Measures skills and gathers data in order to decide which intervention is
appropriate to use based on the students needs.
-Helps teachers which tier is necessary for student success.
