Instructional Alignment

Translates standards to learning objectives, which is then applied to learning and instruction.
Learning Standards
The expectations for the learning and development of young children across all developmental domains, including physical, cognitive, language, and socioemotional.
What students are expected to know by the end of their current grade level.
Instructional Objectives
Details what a student will know, understand, and be able to do by the end of a lesson.

Know Objectives
Outline the content and skills students must master in order to successfully complete the lesson.
Includes the facts, concepts, procedures, and other knowledge.
Understand Objectives
Outline big ideas that help students organize learned knowledge in an understanding and useful way.
For example, using known knowledge and understanding how it will contribute to learning in a positive way.
Able To Do Objectives
Detail what students will be able to accomplish by the end of a lesson.
Focuses on observable behavior and application to meaningful activities.
Backward Design
Purposeful planning of curriculum that begins with what students should be able to know, understand, and be able to do as a result of instruction.
Aligns standards, objectives, and instruction by providing students with foundational skills necessary for meeting learning targets.
Scaffolding
Provides support to students as they are learning new skills.
Ex: Simplifying material, verbal cues, allowing process time, feedback, and emotional regulation.
