Respiratory Zone Flashcards
What structures are in the Respiratory Zone?
Alveoli, alveolar sac, Respiratory Bronchioles
Hows does the epithelium transition in the Respiratory Zone ?
Epithelium transitioning from simple cuboidal to simple squamous
What occurs in the in the respiratory zone
External exchange of gas.
When the lungs are at a low pressure what is going on?
Diaphragm contracts, intercostal muscles left the ribs up and out. Since its lower pressure then outside your body the gases move inwards
What increase the surface area for gas exchange in the lungs?
Alveoli
Gas exchange occurs across the respiratory membrane in the lungs. Which structures would you expect to see making up this membrane?
A. Epithelium of capillary wall
B. Epithelium of alveolar wall
C. Basement membrane
D. All of the above
D all of the above
Where does gas exchange take place
across the respirttory memebrane
in the respiratory membrane why is there a basement membrane ?
The basement membrane is vascialized and this allows for the gas exchange to take place
What is a lobule ?
lobule made of 1 larger bronical and the branches
What is stroma?
Elastic ct tissue making things easier to stretch
As the thoracic cavity expands, why does air rush into the lungs?
a.The air pressure within the lungs decreases as the cavity increases in size
b.The air pressure outside the body becomes lower than that inside the lungs
c. The air pressure within the cavity increases as the lungs increase in size
d.All of the above are true
