Respiratory System Flashcards
Tidal Volume TV or VT
Normal lung volume of air that is displaced between inspiration and expiration when extra effort is not applied.
Usually 500ml per inspiration or 7ml/kg of body mass
Inspiratory reserve volume
IRV- additional amount of air that can be inhaled after tidal volume (2000/300 in human beings)
Expiratory reserve volume
Amount of extra air (above normal) exhaled during a forceful breath out.
1100ml and 800ml in females
Total Lung Capacity
Maximum amount of air that can fill the lungs
TLC 6000ml
TCL= TV+IRV+ERV+RV)
Residual volume
Amount that remains in the lungs added fully exhaled (can be used to test function)
Functional residual capacity
FRC
Volume of air in the lungs after passive expiration
Spirometry
Test for lung function
Measures how much aid you inhale and how quickly you exhale
Partial Pressure
The amount of a specific gas amongst other gasses
21% 02
0.21x 760 mmHg= 160mmHg
During respiration = 100mmHG
Minute Ventilation
The volume of gas inhaled or exhaled from a persons longs per minute.
