Q

Breathing (Ventilation)

A

Inspiration = Breathing in.

Expiration = Breathing out.

Tidal Volume = Air in & out per breath.

Respiratory Rate = Breaths per minute.

Ventilation = Tidal volume × Respiratory rate.

Q

Lung Capacity

A

Vital Capacity = Max air exhaled after deep breath.

Total Lung Capacity = Max air lungs can hold (~6L for males, ~4.2L for females).

Residual Volume = Air left after full exhale (prevents lung collapse).

Q

Gas Exchange (Pulmonary Diffusion)

A

Oxygen (O2) moves from lungs → blood.

Q

Acute Responses to Exercise

A

↑ Breathing rate = More oxygen intake.

↑ Tidal volume = Deeper breaths.

↑ Gas exchange = Faster oxygen & CO2 swap.
