Respiratory system Flashcards

1
Q

what are the functions of the respiratory system

A

-As a gas distributor
-Helps regulates blood PH
As a gas exchanger for the
body
- Supplies oxygen to cells
- Removes carbon dioxide
-Filters, warms, and
humidifies the air we
breathe
-Produces sounds for
vocalization

Q

what is the respiratory system divided in

A
  • Upper respiratory system (nose and pharynx)
  • Lower Respiratory system (larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs)
  • Conducting system – that’s contains interconnecting cavities and tubes both inside
    and outside the lungs

6
Q

what is the process of gas exchange (diffusion) in the body?

A

-De-oxygenated blood (not carrying O2) comes from the right side of the heart to the
lungs.
-The pulmonary capillaries come in contact with the alveoli, and gas exchange
occurs.
-Oxygenated blood returns to the left side of the heart

Q

changes with respiratory system with age?

Q

process of exhalation

A

1.Diaphram & intercoastal
muscles relax; diaphragm and
ribs return to resting position
2.Lungs contract
3.Air follows the reverse path
i.e. alveoli to nose/mouth
4. Air which is exhaled contains
CO2, other waste products
and water vapor
