Respiratory System Flashcards
Respiratory system is
System that transports oxygen through tubes into our lungs and releasing carbon dioxide
The two important structures for breathing are
Diaphragm and intercostal muscles
Gaseous exchange
Occurs at the alveoli in the lungs and takes place by diffusion
Diffusion
Is the movement of gas from high to low concentration
Where does respiration take place
Alveoli
What contracts to cause inhalation
Diaphragm
Where would you find the intercostal muscle
Between the ribs causing the ribs to contract and lift the ribs upwards and out to cause inhalation.
Tidal volume
The amount of air breathed with each normal breath
Oxygen and carbon dioxide combine with
Haemogoblin within the blood and are transported around the body
