Respiratory system Flashcards
1
Q
What is the respiratory system?
A
The respiratory system is a series of tubes that brings oxygen into the body and gets rid of carbon dioxide
2
Q
What organs are involved in the respiratory system?
A
- Nostril
- Mouth
- Larynx
- Lung
- Bronchus
- Diaphragm
- Pharynx
- Trachea
- Bronchiole
- Alveoli
3
Q
Process of Inhalation
A
- Ribs are pulled out and up
- The diaphragm moves down
- The chest cavity increases
- Pressure decreases in the lungs which allow air into the lungs
4
Q
Process of Exhalation
A
- Ribcage goes down
- The diaphragm relaxes
- Chest cavity size decreases
- Air pressure increases pushing air out of the lungs
5
Q
What happens in the Alveoli?
A
gas exchange occurs in the alveoli.
Oxygen diffuses into the blood
Carbon Dioxide diffuses out of the blood
6
Q
Respiratory Problems: Asthma
Report
A
Constriction of airway decreasing airflow into the lungs
Cells in Bronchi produce unusual amounts of mucus
Triggered by allergies
usually treated with inhalers
