Respiratory recognition Flashcards
What parasite undergoes this LC?
Dictyocaulus Viviparous/ husk (bovine lungworm - tristrongyle - bursate nematode)
adult: white, thread like, 8 cm
parasitic bronchitis, less LWG, less yield
l3 can overwinter on pasture, carrier animals, overwinter in lungs as arrested larvae and resume in spring
immunity rapidly acquired after infection
the fungi pilobolus explodes spreading larvae onto pasture
What lungworm does this represent?
Husk / Dictyocaulus Viviparous
may take several cycles before seeing clinical disease
What parasite undergoes this LC?
Angiostrongylus vasorum (metastrongyloidea/lungworm - bursate nematode)
dogs and foxes(resevoir)
adult - 2cm in pulmonary artery / R heart
cardio-resp signs, coagulopathies, neurological signs
What does this fly cause? / what is it?
Nasal bot fly / oestrus ovis
medium fly , grey with black spots, clear wings
annoyance, less feeding , less LWG
What is this?
Nasal bot / oestrus ovis
in nasal chamber of sheep and goats
adult squirts larvae into nose - matures in nasal pasages and sinuses - mature larva sneezed out - pupate in soil
nasal irritation, discharge, sneezing
heavy inf : bone erosion , brain penetration - false gid
What is this and what has caused it?
Oestrus ovis, nasal bots in sheep
Who does this LC belong to?
Linguatula serrata - tongueworm
in nasal passage of dogs and cats
looks like a tongue , transversely striated
heavy infestation - sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge
