Respiratory Physiology Flashcards
What is 2,3 BPG?
Oxygen carrier, carries it from Hb to tissues. Shifts dissociation curve strongly to right
What is Henry’s law?
When a gas is in contact with the surface of a liquid, the amount of gas that will go into the liquid is proportional to the partial pressure of that gas
How is oxygen affinity affected by acidity (increased co2)?
It decreases to release oxygen easier
What is the Bohr effect
Oxygen dissociation curve
How does temp and hydrogen affect the Bohr curve?
Shift it to the right (decrease oxygen Hb affinity)
Normal oxygen pressures
Co2 40mmHg
O2 100mmHg
How is CO2 transported in blood?
Bicarbonate ions via carbonic acid, bound to Hb and plasma proteins and dissolved in plasma
