What is respiratory physiology
A
All process of gas exchange and transport between the atmosphere and body tissues

How are alveoli adapted
A
- one cell thick for shorter diffusion pathway
- rich capillary blood supply for steep concentration gradient
- moist surface so gases can dissolve easier
- large surface area so more diffusion

How is the nasal cavity adapted
A
- Large surface area and good blood supply
- hairy lining to trap dust in mucus
- moist surfaces to increase humidity and reduce evaporation

How is the trachea adapted
A
- Layer of cartilage to hold it open
- rings incomplete so it can bend
- lined with dilated epithelial and goblet cells (produce mucus)
