Respiratory management Flashcards
Typical management of ILD
usually a poor prognosis as damage is irreversible so management is supportive
options are:
>remove or treat underlying cause
>home oxygen where they are hypoxic at rest
>stop smoking
>physiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation
>pneumoccocal and flu vaccine
>advanced care planning and palliative care where appropriate
>lung transplant is an option but careful considerations need to be made
management of hypersensitivity pneumonitis
removing the allergen
giving oxygen where necessary
giving steroids
management of acute bronchitis
typically supportive with analgesia and sometimes bronchodilators
what is salbutamol an example of
beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist
how does salbutamol work for asthma
beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist
adrenalin allows for smooth muscle relaxation
effects only last an hour or so
used as a ‘rescue’ medication on exacerbation of asthma
inhaled corticosteroids in asthma management
example of beclometasone
used as a prevention medication (taken even when well)
reduces the reactivity and inflammation of the airways
