What is influenza? Is it bacterial or viral? How is it transmitted?
It is a highly contagious viral respiratory disease that is transmitted by airborne droplet and direct contact.

What is the onset of influenza? How long is its duration?
It is an abrupt onset, with 1- to 2- week duration.

What are the manifestations of influenza? How long do they last?
Fever, HA, Malaise, Muscle Aches, Fatigue and weakness may last up to a week.
Cough and fatigue may persist for several weeks.

Sinusitis, otitis media, pneumonia, bronchitis.

What should the nurse expect to be administered for the tx of the flu? When should this drug be administered? How is it administered?
Tamiflu. It should be administered within 24-48 of onset of flu symptoms. This is an IM injection (deltoid = adults; vastus lateralis = children).
