- cbc: if high wbc, infection, if normal to slightly high, viral
- ua and c/s

A
- fever
- rhonci
- crackles
- wheezing
- cough
- dyspnea
- tachypnea
- restless
- decreased breath sounds
- newborns: nasal flaring, head bob, grunt, poor feed

expected labs for pneumonia
A
- pulse ox: o2 significantly low or within normal range
- chest x ray: varies according to age and causative agent
- sputum culture: helps determine causative agent bacteria in older adults and adolescents
- wbc: elevated if bacterial
