Respiratory Anatomy Flashcards
What is classed as the extrathoracic airway?
The supraglottis, glottis (VC), infraglottis
What is classed as the intrathoracic airway?
Trachea, bronchus, bronchioles, alveoli
What is the significance of the sternal angle?
Lateral to the sternal angle, on the same plane is the 2nd rib, go down and you will find the 2nd ICS
Name the layers of the diffusion barrier at the air-blood interphase.
Starting at RBCs.
Fluid lining inside of alveolus Alveolar epithelial cell layer Interstitial space/fluid Endothelial cells lining capillary Plasma RBC membrane
The conducting airway is an anatomical dead space.
What makes up the conducting airway?
Nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and bronchioles
What are pleural reflections?
Abrupt lines when the parietal pleura changes direction from one wall of the pleural cavity to another wall
Name the 2 lung recesses
Costomedial recess and Costodiaphragamatic recess
