What respiratory drugs improve airway patency?
- Bronchodilators eg. Beta 2 agonist and anticholinergic drugs.
- Anti-inflammatory drug eg. corticosteroids.
What respiratory drugs improve mast cell degranulation?
-Chromoglycate and Leukotriene receptor antagonists.
What drugs impair ventilation?
Beta blockers, Opioids and benzodiazepines.
What drugs improve gas exchange?
Respiratory stimulants such as theophylline (they have diff bioavailability though so patient needs same brand all the time) and oxygen.
What is an example of an anticholinergic inhaler?
Tiotropium- dilates the bronchioles and reduces mucus secretions. It inhibits muscarinic nerve transmission In autonomic nerves.
Colour and drug name of steroid inhalers?
Brown- budenoside and beclometasone.
Orange- Fluticasone.
Pink- Mometasone.
What two drugs go into a compound inhaler?
Fluticasone and salmeterol- “seretide”.
