How does bronchiolitis present
A
Coryzal symptoms precede
- cough
- low grade fever
- feeding difficulties
on examination
- inspiratory crackles
- expiratory wheeze
- nasal flaring
- grunting
- tachypneoa
- recessions = intercostal, subcostal, supraclavicular
- hyperinflated chest
- Cyanosis or pallor

How is bronchiolitis investigated
A
CXR - rule out pneumothorax or lobar collapse. May show hyperinflation
Blood gas - check for respiratory acidosis

A
NPA = RSV - respiratory synctial virus viral cultures Adenovirus Influenza Parainfluenza Rhinovirus Enterovirus
