How does bronchiolitis present

A

Coryzal symptoms precede

  • cough
  • low grade fever
  • feeding difficulties

on examination

  • inspiratory crackles
  • expiratory wheeze
  • nasal flaring
  • grunting
  • tachypneoa
  • recessions = intercostal, subcostal, supraclavicular
  • hyperinflated chest
  • Cyanosis or pallor

How is bronchiolitis investigated

A

CXR - rule out pneumothorax or lobar collapse. May show hyperinflation
Blood gas - check for respiratory acidosis
