Tb management

Treatment of latent tb

A

6 months therapy via direct observed therapy (most effective to reduce resistance)

Stripe:
Streptomycin, rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, ethambutol

Latent tb treated with 9 month of isoniazid
Rifampin can’t be use alone as increase resistance now

Adverse effect:
Isoniazid: upregulate cyp2ei (enzyme that metabolise paracetamol to nadpqi, hepatotoxic), peripheral neuropathy - can’t be prevented with pyridoxine

Rifampin: hepatic clearance of other drugs, red compound in urine and tears

Ethambutol: optic neuritis

A

Isoniazid 300 mg oral for 6 months
