Bronchiolitis

A
  • Causes necrosis of the respiratory epithelium and plugs lumens with mucus causing obstructions.
  • Limits exhalation causing hyperinflation
  • Causes hypoxemia, CO2 retention, altered ABGs
  • Observe closely for changes. Deteriorate fast

Pneumonia

Types:
Aspiration, Viral, Bacterial

Can lead to:
Empyema, sepsis, plural effusion, pneumothorax, dehydration

A
  • Often secondary to influenza
  • Inflammation of the pulmonary parenchyma
  • Caused by inhalation or comes from the blood stream
  • Mostly viral and community aquired
  • often associated with chronic lung disease
  • Pain may present in abdomen with younger kids
