Q

Why are both components of the respiratory system important to getting adequate oxygen into the blood?

A
  • ventilation - if gas can’t get into the patient’s lungs then there is nothing to exchange
  • gas exchange - gas needs to be exchanged between the lungs and the blood, adequate surface area required, area of exchange can’t be too thick
