Respiration+breathing Flashcards
Aerobic respiration
Needs oxygen to release energy from food
Anaerobic respiration
Does not use oxygen to release energy from food
Oxygen is carried by the
Haemoglobin on red blood cells of the body
Aerobic respiration takes place in
All the living cells in the human body as well as in most animal and plant cells
Example of anaerobic respiration
Yeast converts to alcohol in FERMENTATION this produces alcohol for drinks such as beers and wine
Nose
Breathe in,air is warmed, hair and mucous trap germs and dirt
Alveoli
Gas exchange takes place here -carbon dioxide out and oxygen in
Trachea
Carries air in the lungs ,held open by rings of cartilage
Bronchus
One gives from the trachea to each of the lungs
Bronchioles
Smallest air tubes that go from the bronchus to the alveoli
Diaphragm
A muscle that flattens to start to breath in
Respiration
The process that releases energy from food
