Respiration and breathing Flashcards
Areobic respiration
Needs oxygen to rolease energy from food
Anaerobic respiration
Does not use oxygen to release energy from food
Oxygen is carried by the
Haemoglobin on red blood cells to all other cells of the body
Aerobic respiration takes place in
All the living cells in the human body as well as in most animal and plant cells
Example of anaerobic respiration
Yeast converts sugars to alcohol in “ FERMENTATION ” - this produces alcohol for drinks such as beer and wine
Nose
Breath O2 in and stops dirt from entering
Mouth
Breath out CO2
Wind pipe
carries air to the lungs
Bronchus
Each bronchus carries air between the windpipes and lungs
What is a Bronchioles
Two bronchi subdivide many times to from tiny tubes called bronchioles
Bronchioles
Carry air to and from the air sacs or alveoli
Alveolus
Gas exchange
Diaphragm
Sheet of muscles that form the base of the chest
Intercostal muscle
Helps the diaphragm to allow air in and out of the lungs
Respiration
The process that releases energy from food
