Respiration Flashcards
What is respiration?
Is a chemical reaction that is an energy released from glucose so other reactions can happen.
What is aerobic respiration?
Glucose and oxygen react together in cells r
To produce carbon dioxide.
What is the equation for respiration?
Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water.
What organs does the respiratory system contain?
2 lungs
Tubes leaving from mouth to nose and lungs
Various structure of the chest to allow air move in and out of the lungs.
What is ventilation?
How humans breathe and involves the ribs, muscles between the ribs and the diaphragm to move air into and out of the lungs.
What does the diaphragm do?
Inhaling: Contracts and moves downwards
Exhaling: relaxes and moves upwards.
What are the intercostal muscles? (Between the rib cage)
Inhaling: contracts moving ribs upwards and outwards.
Exhaling: relaxes letting ribs move downwards and inwards.
What does the volume of ribcage do?
Inhaling: increases
Exhaling: decreases.
What does the pressure inside the chest do?
Inhaling: decreases below pressure
Exhaling: increases above pressure
What does the movement of air do?
Inhaling: moves into the lungs
Exhaling: over out of the lungs
What is gas changing?
To get oxygen from the air into our blood and remove carbon dioxide from the blood into the air.
What does alveoli do?
The give the lungs and large surface area
The have moist, thin walls
They have a lot of blood vessels called capillaries.
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concert fails.
What do plants need for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide, water and light source.
What is respiration used for?
Used for growth and repair, movement and control of body temperatures.
