What are carbohydrates?
To provide energy
Eg; cereals, bread, pasta, rice and potatoes.
What is protein?
For growth and repair.
Eg; fish, meat, eggs, beans and dairy products
What is lipids?
Keep our bodies warm and provide short burning energy.
Eg; butter, oils and nuts.
What are minerals?
Needed in small amounts to maintain healthy diet.
Eg; salt, milk and liver
What are vitamins?
Needed in small amounts to maintain health
Eg; fruit and veg
What is dietary fibre?
To provide roughage to help keep the food moving through the gut.
What is water?
Needed for cell and body fluids
Where does the digestive system start and end?
Mouth to anus
What does the digestive system do?
Absorbs food and uses it for are bodies
Stages of digestion
Food digested in the mouth, stomach and small intestines.
Digestive food is absorbed into the bloodstream in the small intestine
Excess water is absorbed back into are bodies in the large intestines
Undigestiged food exits through the anus.
What are seven kinds of nutrients?
Carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, minerals, vitamins, dietary fibre and water.
