Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Where does glycolysis occur?
A
Cytoplasm
2
Q
What are the products of glycolysis?
A
- 2 x 3C pyruvate
- Net gain of 2 ATP
- 2 NADH
3
Q
Describe the process of glycolysis:
A
- Glucose is phosphorylated twice using 2 ATP into glucose phosphate (6C)
- Glucose phosphate converts into 2 x Triose Phosphate molecules (3C)
- Triose phosphate is dehydrogenised and oxidised to produce 2 x Pyruvate (3C)
- this substrate-level phosphorylation produces 4 ATP and 2 NAD and reduced to produce 2 NADH
4
Q
Where does link reaction occur?
A
- Mitochondrial matrix
5
Q
Explain why a log scale is used to record the number of cells
A
- large range
- large increase in numbers
