Respiration Flashcards
What is Respiration?
Respiration is a process of which chemical energy that is stored in glucose is released. Also Respiration is a series of enzyme controlled reactions
State the 4 cellular process used for energy releases
1)Cell division
2)Protein synthesis
3) Muscle cell contractions
4) Transmission of nerve impulses
State why some cells need a lot more mitochondria than others
It is because they need more energy than others cells such as muscle cells and sperm cells so that’s why it needs more mitochondria
What is the first stage of aerobic respiration?
The first stage happens in the cytoplasm. Glucose is broken into pyruvate which produces 2 ATP molecules. This is known as Glycolysis.
What is the second stage of aerobic respiration?
The second stage happens in the mitochondria. The pyruvate breaks down to produce Carbon dioxide and Water which produces 36 ATP molecules
What are the final products of fermentation in animal and plant and yeast cells?
Final products for fermentation in animal cells : Lactate+ energy
Final products for fermentation in plant and yeast cells : carbon dioxide + ethanol + energy
