Q

Performance Operating Characteristic (POC) Graph

A

Plots dual task performance as a function of task priority and looks at how performance varies between tasks as we change their priority.
->will use more resource when is our priority

Q

Rapid serial visual presentation (an application of resource theory to attention in time) shows that…

A

Comprehension is efficient; words or pictures can be understood and recalled when presented at high rates.

Q

In the reading speed task, the typical fixation lasts _____ms

A

250 ms; since most words fixated at least once, implies reading speed of 250 wmp.

Q

Repetition Blindness

A

Repeated RSVP items are often not reported, explained by the relatively inefficient processing of context. ->activating same word detector, need context to realize repetition
-> doesn’t occur for sound, letter case, or meaning, but does for spelling even when sound is diffferent=> means based on representation of word spelling, not appearance.

Q

Attentional Blink

A
  • RSVP presentation w/ 2 targets
  • Second target often missed at short lags (shortly after 1st)
  • Implies target retention is resource limited.
