Q

How does carbon capture work?

A

Trapped CO2 is compressed and then it is injected into the ground using old oil/gas wells. It is then trapped inside the rocks forever

15
Q

How does the biogas production work?

16
Q

What are the advantages of biogas in India?

A

Provides low cost, clean gaseous fuel
Time saved in collecting firewood
Reduced deforestation and erosion
Over 4 million small plants for cattle manure so far, predicted to be 12 million
Costs from RS.6000 (US$150)

17
Q

What are the disadvantages of biogas in India?

A

Still produces CO(2) from cooking
Cows produce methane from belching
Space and grass required to feed cows ( 70-100kg of grass per day)
Construction required to build the digesters and pipes to homes

18
Q

Why is biogas in India a good example of a small scale sustainable scheme for improving energy in an NEE?

A

It has appropriate technology- won’t break
Sustainable- not reliant on finite resources
Simple/ low tech - easily accessible to anyone
