this refers to the ability of people to withstand the social pressure to conform to the majority or to be to authority
This ability to withstand social pressure is influenced by both situational and dispositional factors

Locus of control is the sense we each have about what directs events in our lives
people with a internal locus of control believe…
they are mostly responsible for what happens to them
people with an external locus of control…
Believe it’s mainly a matter of luck or other outside forces that are responsible for what happens to them
example of someones beliefs with an internal locus of control
You do well in an exam because he worked hard if you don’t do well it is because you didn’t work hard
Examples of someone’s beliefs with an external locus of control
If they did well in an exam, it was because they used an excellent textbook. If they failed they might blame it on the textbook. All they had bad luck because the questions were hard.
What is the LOC continuum?
People are not just either internal or external, LOC is a scale an individual is very in their position on it
Who is more likely to resist social influence people with a internal LOC or a external LOC?
people with a high internal LOC are more able to resist pressure to conform or a day as they take personal responsibility for their actions and experiences, and they tend to base their decisions on their own beliefs, rather than depending on their opinions of others
People with a high internal LOC also tend to be more self-confident more achievement oriented and have higher intelligence
What is social support?
The presence of people who resisted pressure to conform, or obay, can help others do the same these people act as models to show others that resistance social influence as possible
