Resistance Flashcards
What is resistance?
The measure of how difficult it is for current to flow through a component
What is resistance measured in?
Ohms Ω
What is charge flow affected by?
- The resistance
- The potential difference
What happens to the charge flow if the resistance increases?
The current will decrease
What happens to the charge flow if the potential difference increases?
The current will increase
What is the equation for resistance?
Potential Difference (V) / Current (I)
What are the units for:
- potential difference
- current
- resistance
- Potential difference = Volts (V)
- Current = amperes (A)
- Resistance = Ohms (Ω)
What is resistance calculated by?
V/I
What is potential difference measured by?
Voltmeter
What is current measured by?
Ammeter
The longer the wire….
The higher the resistance
What does an Ohmic conductor do?
Obey Ohm’s Law
What is the current in a ohmic conductor proportional to?
The potential difference across the resistor
What happens to the resistance as the current changes?
Remains constant / Stays the same
What do you need to measure resistance?
- an ammeter in series
- Ohm’s law
- a voltmeter in parallel
