Research Variables Flashcards
What is a variable?
Variable is a factor, trait or condition that can exist in different amounts or types and is measured, controlled or manipulated in study
Types of research variables?
Independent variables and dependent variables. Control variables, extraneous variables, and confounding variables
What is independent variables?
The variable that is manipulated or changed by the researcher to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
What is dependent variable
The variable that is measured or observed in response to change in the independent variable.
What is control variable.
A variable that kept constant to ensure that it does not influence the outcome of the study.
What is an extraneous variable
A variable that is not the focus of the study but may unintentionally affect the dependent variable
What is confounding variable
An extraneous variable that varies along with independent variable making it to difficult to determine the true cause of changes in the dependent variable
What is moderator variable
A variable that influence the strength or direction of the relationship between the dependent and independent variables
What is mediator variable
A variable that explains the mechanism through which the independent variable affects the dependent variable.
