Research methods Flashcards
Ingredients or characteristics to research
Theory and framework
Standard procedure
Generalisability
Objective measurement
What is generalisability in research?
Taking a sample from a group you are studying, testing a theory and applying your results to the whole population
What is a variable and what are the types of variables
A type of phenomenon and how a participant responds eg how STRESS affects physics FITNESS
Continuous variable is on a scale eg healthiness
Categorical variable has clear boundaries eg gender
How to objectively measure an experiment
Valid ways of measuring to make you are measuring what you actually are meant to be measuring and reliability to show consistent results.
6 steps in conducting an experiment
- Hypothesis
- Ideas to concrete (operationalising)
- Form procedure
- Random participation
- Data into statistics
- Evaluation and looking to further questions of research topic
