Society dictates what is normal. Culture can change the symptoms of a disorder.
What is mental health
Capacity to behave in a way which enhances social and emotional health
What is the difference between Mental health problems and mental disorders?
Mental health problems are abnormalities in thoughts feelings and behaviours that can negatively affect mental health but mental disorders are clinically recognised disruptions in behaviours thoughts and feelings which fall under a set of symtoms
Explain psychopathology through history
Insanity: anyone outside strict “normal” is insane.
Labelling theory: negative view of differences in mental health, stigma and even self filling prophecy
Contemporary: need to acknowledge the social and cultures differences in people and how this affects symptoms of mental illness
