Q

What are the strengths of Naturalistic Observation?

A
  • It is the best way to observe someone naturally.
  • Can provide richer and fuller information than of lab studies
  • Can be used when other methods are not possible.

Q

What are the strengths of Participant Observations?

A
  • There is flexibility in the involvement of the observer.
  • Longitudinal

Q

What are the weaknesses of participant observations?

A

-Ethics (deception and consent)
• The observer can change the participant’s behavior which wouldn’t have happened without their involvement.
• Objectivity
• Accuracy- Observers can not note down what they are seeing there and then.
• Participants may influence researcher.

Q

What are natural experiments?

A
  • As the name suggests these are experiments so we are still measuring the effect of IV and DV.
  • These are like field experiments except that the IV is not manipulated.
  • They take place in natural environments.
  • Used when manipulating IV is impossible or improbable.
  • A common natural IV is sex: the difference between males and females in throwing ability. IV = sex DV= throwing ability.
