What is a research sponsor and what is their job?
A research sponsor is usually an institution or organisation and they are ultimately responsible for the initiation, management and financing of the research. They take the responsibility for making sure that the design of the study meets appropriate standards and that arrangements are in place to ensure appropriate conduct and reporting
How is ethical approval gained?
Ethical review is achieved through the review of research taking place within the NHS by NRES research ethics committees. These committees review numerous things including the relevance of the trial, the trial design and risks/benefits.
What further applications need to be made once ethical approval has been gained?
Once ethical approval has been gained, an application can be made to the integrated research application system (IRAS).
