Research design Flashcards
What is a research design?
Identification and/or development of procedures and logistical arrangements required to undertake a study
Emphasis on the importance of quality in these procedures to ensure their validity, objectivity, and accuracy
Functions of a research design
Create a plan to undertake the various procedures and tasks required to complete your study
Control of variance: ensure that these procedures are adequate to obtain valid, objective, and accurate answers to the research questions
Theory of causality
The different sets of variables that cause the change in the dependent variable
Extraneous variables
all other factors that affect the relationship between the independent and dependent variables
cannot be eliminated but they can be controlled
Random/chance variables
changes in the dependent variables because of the respondent’s state of mood or ambiguity in the research instrument
total change
the combined effects of all variables
