Research Design Flashcards
Definition Experimental Research Design
Research that has independent and dependent variable
Problems that could happen with Experimental RD
Problem:
- Confound
- Participant demand
- Experimenter expectations
Solutions for confound, participant demand, and experimenter expectations
Double-blind procedure: Neither participant & researchers know about what conditions participants are in
Definition confound
Participants realize what they get
Definition participant demand
Participants act/behave according to what the researcher wants
Definition random assignment
Participants couldn’t pick the variable, which helps to prevent ideal conditions for participants & make all characteristics similar
Definition correlational design
Research that focuses on finding patterns of relationships (passively observing & measuring phenomena)
Problem with correlational design
- Correlation is not causation
- It is uncertain that one variable causes the other variable
Describe 3 Qualitative designs
- Observation
- Case study
- Narrative analysis
Define observation
embedding him or herself into a group in order to study its dynamics
Define case study
intensive examination of specific individuals/contexts
Define narrative analysis
study of stories & personal accounts of people, groups or cultures
Analyze themes, structure, and dialogue of each person’s narrative
Define Quasi-experimental
similar with experimental, but with no random assignment
