• Specific research- Designer can tailor the research to benefit their needs such as gaining feedback on models
• The data gained will be fresh and current
• The quality of the data is under the designers control and any shortcomings will be known
• In depth- When carrying out interviews and focus groups, conversations with the people will allow you to get a better understanding of their feelings than just secondary quotes

What are the disadvantages of primary research?

• Very time consuming
• Can be costly to carry out
• There could be bias in the results such as focus groups telling designers what they think they want to hear
• Sample size could be small due to limited resources.
