Research Flashcards
Reliability
overall consistency of a measure. high reliability= measure will produce statistically similar results under consistent experimental conditions.
Validity
degree to which the tool measures what it claims to measure
internal validity: confidence that can be placed in the cause
external validity: effect of research can be generalized to other populations, settings, etc.
concurrent validity: results correspond to those of a previously established measurement. comparing tests
predictive validity: testing a group of subjects for a certain construct then comparing results at some point in the future.
cross sequential design
combo of cross sectional and longitudinal designs
longitudinal design
same people are measured at different ages.
cross sectional design
researchers collect data at a single point in time from participants of different ages.
retrospective design
to look back and try to remember what they were like at an earlier point in life.
single subject design
subject serves as his/her own control
Quasi- experimental design
does the treatment of intervention have an impact?aims to establish a cause-effect study.
randomized control trial
randomly assign groups or indiv. to either an intervention group or control group.
