Required practicals Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how to carry out a practical investigation to explore the effect of concentration on the rate of a reaction.
A
- Use a measuring cylinder put 10cm3 of sodium thiosulfate soultion into a concical flask.
- Place the conical flask onto a printed black cross.
- Next add 10cm3 of hydrochloric acid into the conical flask.
- Swirl the solution and start a stopwatch.
- Stop the clock when we can no longer see the cross.
- Repeat using lower concetrations of sodium thiosulfate solution.
2
Q
Describe another way of how to carry out a practical investigation to explore the effect of concentration on the rate of a reaction.
A
- Use a measuring cylinder to place 50cm3 of hydrochloric acid into a conical flask.
- Attach the conical flask to a bung and delivery tube.
- Now place the delivery tube into a container filler with water.
- Then place an upturned measuring cylinder also filled with water out the delivery tube.
- Add a 3 cm strip of magnesium to the HCL and start a stopwatch.
- Hydrogen gas is produced which is trapped in the measuring cylinder, every 10 secs, measure the volume of H gas.
- Repeat using different conc of HCL.
3
Q
Whis meant if a measurement is reproducible?
A
If it can be repeated by another person or using a different technique or equipment and still get the same result.
