Q

Required Practical: 1 - PART ONE
How would you prepare a standard solution?

A

1) Measure, using a balance, the precise mass of solid required.
2) Add it to a small volume of distilled water in a beaker and dissolve it by stirring with a glass rod
3) Transfer this to a volumetric flask and rinse the beaker (w/ distilled water) into the flask so no solid is lost.
4) Keep adding water up to the graduation mark
5) Invert multiple times to mix

Q

Required Practical: 1 - PART TWO
How would you carry out a titration?

A

1) Use a pipette to transfer the unknown reactant into the conical flask, fill the burette with the standard solution. Place the conical flask on top of a while tile.

2) Record initial volume of standard solution.

3) Add a few drops of indicator to the conical flask.

4) Open the burette tap and allow the reactant to flow into the conical flask, swirling it to mix the contents.
Close the burette tap once a colour change occurs.

5) Record final burette volume.
Repeat until you get concordant results, then calculate a mean titre.
