What is the method for the force and extension pratical?

Answer 1

-Get a clamp stand with two bosses and clamps and place weight on clamp stand to prevent it falling.
-Attach metre ruler and spring and measure base of spring at 0 and unstretched.
-Hang 1N of weight and continue adding weight
-Subtracted length by unstretched sprint to find extension

What is the method for the wave practical?

Answer 2

• Attach spring to vibration generator and hanging mass
  -vibration generator should be attached to signal generator which allows frequency of string vibrations to be adjusted.
  -At certain frequency standing wave due to resonance
  -Measure wavelength and calculate speed via equation
  -In order to calculate wavelength of standing wave do
  Total length/number of half wavelengths then multiply by 2.

Question 3

What is used to see infrared emitted by different substances in the infrared practical?

Answer 3

-Leslie’s cube to see infrared emitted by different surfaces- shiny metallic ,white ,shiny black and matt black.

Question 4

What is the method for the infrared practical?

Answer 4

-Fill Leslie’s cube with hot water and point infrared detector at each of four surfaces and record infrared emitted.
-Keep detector at same distance
-Order for absorption most to least
Matt black-Shiny Black-White-Shiny Metallic
OR
-Infrared heater with two metal plates either side one shiny metallic and one matt black then attach drawing pin to both via Vaseline
-Turn on heater and time and record time for pin to fall of and should be matt black as it absorbs most infrared
