REQUIRED PRACTICAL - Current Flashcards
What does the circuit look like?
A battery connected by wires and a resistor.
The resistor is in series with an ammeter and a variable resistor.
We have have a voltmeter in parallel across the resistor
What is the first step?
- Use the voltmeter to measure the potential difference across the resistor
- Use the ammeter to measure the current through the resistor
What is the third step?
-Adjust the variable resistor and record the new reading on the voltmeter and ammeter
Do this several readings
What is the third step?
-Switch the direction of the battery so that the direction of the potential difference is now reversed
-Both the voltmeter and the ammeter should read negative values
-Take several readings
When repeating the experiment with a diode, why do we need an extra resistor?
Because diodes are easily damaged under a high current
