What is Air Interdiction?
Mission scheduled to strike particular targets in response to JFC or component target nominations
What is Close Air Support?
Mission scheduled to provide air support in response to preplanned CAS requests
What is GAI (ground alert air interdiction)?
On call mission placed on ground alert to provide responsive AI in response to emerging targets
What is XAI (Abn Alert AI)?
A scheduled mission that provides airpower to a designated area vs a preplanned target and is flown when targets are not known or briefed in advance
-A/C finds and attacks TGTs of opportunity in assigned areas
-Armed Reconnaissance
What is GCAS?
-Known as push CAS
-On call mission placed on ground alert status to provide responsive air support to ground forces
What is XCAS?
-Known as “Push CAS”
-On call mission on airborne alert status IVO ground forces that expect to encounter resistance
-XCAS sorties remain in established holding patterns waiting for tasking from any ground unit that needs CAS
What is SCAR? (Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance)
-Missions to detect targets for dedicated AI missions in a specified geographic zone.
-Area can be defined by a box or grid where worthwhile potential targets are known or suspected to exist
What are the two types of Air Support Requests?
-Preplanned
-Immediate
