What do the ovaries do?
Contains hundreds of undeveloped egg cells. Every month, an egg cell matures and is released.
What does the oviduct (fallopian tube) do?
Carries egg cells from the ovaries to the uterus.
What is the uterus lining?
A blood-rich in which an embryo implants. This lining is lost each month during menstration.
What is the uterus?
Where the baby develops during pregnancy..
What is the vagina?
A muscular tube that leads from the cervix to the outside of the body.
What is the cervix?
A ring of muscle at the lower end of the uterus. This keeps the baby in place during pregnancy.
What hormone do the ovaries make?
They make Oestrogen
What hormone do the testes make?
They make Testosterone
What is a Gamete?
A sex cell (either a sperm or an egg)
What is an Embryo?
After an egg has been fertilised, it travels down the oviduct and divides into a ball of cells called an Embryo.
What is implantation?
When the Embryo reaches the womb it sinks into the thickened lining.
What is a Foetus?
An unborn baby
What are the two types of contraception?
Hormonal and Barrier
What is Hormonal Contraception?
Hormonal Contraception, tricks the female’s body with hormones so that it won’t get pregnant.
What is Barrier Contraception?
Barrier Contraception, literally acts as a wall, stopping sperm from reaching the egg.
